Small Barn Lantern
Circa 15th Century to 19th Century
Sometimes erroneously
called the Paul Revere Lantern. An original
of this lantern is in the Ross County Ohio
historical society. This small lantern features
no glass and is completely covered in punch pattern work. It
was often used with the door open, but when carrying or used
in the barn the door was closed to prevent fires.
This is a very
primitive style lantern utilizing hand seaming instead of
the more expensive solder joints, and without glass. At the
time this lantern was used, glass was quite expensive.
Dimensions: 5 1/4 inches wide by 15 1/2 inches tall.
Price: $58.00

Century This larger version
of the Barn Lantern is more indicative of the early Colonial
style. Like the small barn lantern, this style is completely
covered with punch style sides and absence of glass. It was
the workhorse of the times.
At a later time (19th Century) glass
was sometimes added to the door, as glass was more readily
available.

inches tall.
